Tata Motors looks for new places for Nano project

September 3, 2008 – 6:53 pm

After continuous strikes, Tata Motors is upset with West Bengal government and now it’s looking for other places to relocate its plant. Tata Motors suspended work at world’s cheapest car plant after it was hit by huge farmer and political protests. A statement by TATA announcing the suspension late on Tuesday followed by statement that they are leaving West Bengal for good.

The statement also added that it’s highly optimistic to think of a return to normalcy at Singur in the next few days.  Tata got support from industry and political forces from other states on these moves. Sources in the know of the situation indicated that the project might still remain in left ruled state and various forces are at work for a last-minute solution.

What it seems obvious is nothing but posturing by the company to show its seriousness. There had been a complete breakdown of operations at Singur due to long agitations.

Tata’s spokes person said, our employees had to be escorted by police, no contract workers for days and no free truck movement hampered their work. Apart from these problems several of project’s experienced managers want to relocate. The existing environment of obstruction has already forced company to delay the Nano’s market launch by a couple of weeks.
