Mumbai Girls Speak Against Corruption

December 11, 2008 – 7:34 pm

At a recent SAARC (South Asia Association for Regional Cooperation) debate competition held in New Delhi, our Mumbaia girls were declared the clear-cut team winners after being judged for their practical, strong and confident debating skills.

Topic of discussion: “All countries in the world, rich and poor, are vulnerable to corruption, so corruption is not a development issue at all.” Our Mumbaia girls Devika and Ayesha spoke for and against the motion respectively. Both the girls won the hearts of esteemed judges and earned the champions trophy to their credit.

The winners of the competition were decided on various parameters and the winning countries included India, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Pakistan.

Corruption is a global problem, and has spread it roots widely. The competition served as a platform for budding students to come up with some thought-provoking and practically applicable views and suggestions. The judges were happily surprised to see the thought process of these students, and said that they sounded extremely rational, analytical and reflective in their approach. The judges, along with UNDP Resident Representative, Dr. Maxine Olson and Minister for External Affairs, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee were confident to do away with the evil cause of Corruption and make world a better place to live in.
