December 2, 2008 – 7:03 pm

CAT no longer remains a paper pencil test! The officials from the Indian Institute of Management- Calcutta, confirmed the news that CAT exams could be given online from next year. The CAT committee has already started preparing a question bank for its online exams.

This news has taken the CAT aspirants by storm! They are elated to know that now they would be able to give their entrance application tests sitting at the comfort of their homes. Though the IIM officials are in no mood to detail the exams procedure, they are already considering different issues like question data banks, timings, and other technicalities.

This going online is beneficial both for the institutes and aspirants. It would cut down the costs involved in conducting examinations and also result in heavy participation of students. According to the admission chairperson Ashish Bhattacharyya, IIM Calcutta, last year 2.3 lakh students opted for CAT. This year it has been 2.7 lakhs, and the number is only set to rise exponentially, with online exams starting from 2009.

So CAT aspirants can be happy and wait for 2009 to arrive soon! That’s what they say- All in good time!
