It is a fact that enrolling in distance education program has lots of benefits. Today, seeking education through distance learning is continually popularizing among potential students. Though, it is always advisable to enroll for a course that does not only interest you but should also fit your job, career and life necessities. Here are some pros and cons of distance education over traditional education explained to determine how useful they are to do;
Pros of Distance learning Education-
• Convenience- Distance education is easily possible with a computer with Internet connection. Online education is not alike to the college’s annual or semester schedule. You can take the course whenever you want, at your convenience.
• Flexibility- It offers flexibility in the time for submission of your assignments and projects, and in some cases you can give exams according to your convenience. The choice of examination center is also upto you.
• Availibility- A vast pool of degree and diploma courses are offered in online education option.
• Fee structure- Fee for an online course is often cheaper than a regular course. You don’t have to worry about housing or meals charges or for staying out.
• Self-Directed- Only you control the learning environment around you by setting your own pace and schedule.
• Accessibility- With online courses you can avail education anywhere with the internet access.
• No Travel Expenses- You don’t have to commute to attend the classes regularly so you don’t have to bear a cost for travelling either.
• No interruption in Job/Career- As distance learning is controlled by your pace, there is no such condition arises where you have to ask for a leave or quit your job.
Cons of Distance Learning Education
• Requires New Skills/ Technologies – If one does not knowcomputer skills, or not adaptable to the technologies then online education simply does not work for him/her.
• No social interaction- You don’t get much opportunity to interact with your classmates or faculties as often as in traditional education.
• Little support- Most of the time students have to make arrangements of resources and study materials on their own. They get very little support from faculty members.
• Perceptions or Reputations- Though the mindset of the people are changing nowadays and everyone of us has started realizing its value but there is still a stigma attached to this form of education.
• No Campus atmosphere- Beauty of campus, spirit of college is obviously a part of the traditional college experience which lacks in distance learning.
