NCPCR seeks efforts to improve basic education in India
November 20, 2009 – 12:30 pmThe National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has revealed the fact that a large percentage of the children in India are still deprived from their basic rights. It has also stated that the situation demands for more efforts to be taken to improve the condition of primary education.
The chair-person of the children rights’ body, Shantha Sinha said, “The survival of a poor child as student until he or she completes class ten is precarious. Only 46 per cent of the students reach up to class eight and hardly 22 per cent of them finish class ten,” at Maulana Azad Memorial Lectures.
She further added that the implementation of the Act ‘Right to Education’, to a great extent, would help the situation. She also said that the implementation of the ‘Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education’ would ensure every child of our country to get his or her basic education.
