Ignou to Celebrate Completion of 25 successful Years
December 5, 2009 – 12:38 pmThe world’s largest university, Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou), is planning a celebration for completing its 25 successful years of its foundation soon, with a sequel of announcements.
On this occassion, President Pratibha Devisingh Patil particularly highlighted the importance of having quality education and need for its improvement, apart from focussing more on more students enrolling in University. She added further that the university’s creation of high quality human resources as its products would provide India a front-ranking among the elite list of nations of the world. Patil also launched the Flexi Learning scheme, under which a student gets opportunity as a prospective learner to sample a specific course of his/her interest to take an appropriate decision for a course or program before actually enrolling in the university.
Giving much stress on the importance of regional centres of Ignou, President said, “These centres can play a very important role in reducing disparities in education by extending education opportunities in villages and remote areas.”
Other important announcements were made by the Minister for human resource development Kapil Sibal, Minister of state for HRD D Purandeswari and planning commission member Narendra Jadav, who were the guests of honour in the event. “Absence of adequate number of quality faculty is a major concern, but this problem can be solved to a large extent through distance learning and interactive learning”, calling Ignou university the pioneer of distance education.
To make the year-long silver jubilee celebration more memorable and workable, various events, career fairs, exhibitions, workshops, national and international seminars will be organized all across the nation.
Established in 1985, Ignou today has emerged as the largest university after having 2.5 million students enrolled for it, with having more than 2,243 study centres. The university offers 3,500 courses and has marked its presence in 34 countries.

Hi! this is Tina from Mumbai, ya nice write up, I did my MBA from Sikkim Manipal University of Distance Education, they have awesome courses and the great thing is that they have no entrance exams and the fees are reasonable too and they have their centers all over.
