Education in India: ‘Grading’ the Colleges
November 18, 2008 – 6:43 pmRecently when I was reading an article about the competitiveness heading among various colleges nationwide, a thought crossed my mind. Colleges and leading institutions are heading breezy competitions among themselves to attract more what they term as “worthy students”. The competition is no doubt a healthy one, as is it leading the schools to various improvements and developments. So shouldn’t the Government issue report cards to schools faring them on a grade scale?
The College/ University Grading trend could be a great success measure in streamlining students’ career. The grading could be on various patterns like number of people getting jobs through college-campus-interviews, platform for extra curricular and athletic activities the college provides, infrastructure and location of the college premises, etc. So before choosing a college, students could also check its report card before showing theirs. Well this grading system would inadvertently create more competition among the colleges, but then, all is well that ends well! A healthy competition, no matter how intense proves fruitful at the end.
