From being EITA, to transforming into CIA, from having extensive publications to owning CII library, from promoting industrial trade fairs to achieving help from corporates, the journey has been full of accomplishments and challenges. Not understood? We will answer a few more questions that may be springing in your mind.
• What relevance does EITA has with CII?
EITA, Engineering and Iron Trades Association was the name of CII initially. It was later renamed. ‘Engineering and Iron Trades Association’ had five founding engineering firms from the ‘Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry’. It was set up to compel British government to give government orders for engineering goods (steel and iron) with India based companies. The name of the organization was further altered to ‘Indian Engineering Association’ (IEA) and then to ‘Association of Indian Engineering Industry’ (AIEI). Later, it was altered to ‘Confederation of Engineering Industry’ (CEI) and finally to ‘Confederation of Indian Industry’ (CII) in the year 1992.
• What about the publications?
CII does research on sundry sections of Indian industry. The research is made public in the form of reports and books covering variegated subjects. Visit the mentioned link for details. http://cii.in/publication/publications.php?menu_id=62&cid=1
• What is CII’s library all about?
The organization has a central information centre at Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Library. It houses books, documents, CDs, journals, photographs and audio-visuals of relevant information about Indian industry. It was established to enhance availability of business information to general public, individuals, government and agencies in printable and non-printable formats.
• What is CII’s industrial trade fair?
Trade fairs promoting Indian industry are organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry. Auto Expo, Agrotech, IETF, IMME are a few flagship trade fairs. Participation fee in trade fairs is charged, which brings loads of revenue. CII also is benefited from inexpensive land, grants and government dole outs. It is the most rich Indian industry association, with sponsorship from government and corporates.
